T42 Won't Suspend

#1 Post by whizkid » Wed Aug 15, 2007 10:08 pm

I recently got a T42 off eBay. It still has some warranty, but appeared to be perfect, and was recently restored to a factory software image (of XP Pro) but no restore partition. My wife is using the machine. (My T60 is running Linux.)

Anyway, within the last few days, the machine won't fully suspend. It begins to suspend, and the screen blanks, but the moon never blinks, and the WiFi indicator keeps blinking. (oh hey! I'll have her try Fn+F7 next time too)

None of the key combinations we've tried get it to respond at all.

The machine works fine otherwise, even for long periods.

Any tips or pointers would be most helpful.

My wife's T42 refused to suspend after installing an Epson C60 printer driver. The first time this happened, I did not know what had caused it since I installed a number of updates, then left town for a couple of months. I booted up in SAFE MODE and performed a Windows System Restore back to when I knew it was working properly. I reinstalled the updates one by one and kept checking to see that Standby still worked. I discovered the printer driver was the culprit. I went to Epson's website and found a newer driver, and I had no problem with this driver.

In short, check for any recent updates you may have applied. You can use System Restore to go back to when it was working properly.

Look in the event viewer. Usually there is a message about the driver that will not suspend.
