Unfortunately, I sold the panel about two weeks ago.

Speaking of Houston, I'll be there in mid November but only for three days so I probably won't have time to get together, but I will try.

Thats where my R&D is focussed at this point. I've created this Master Excel Sheet to figure out compatible:

Tried this on my T43 with the ATI X300. Works well, right out of the box.

Only thing I'm not happy about is the brightness of the screen and the viewing angle. Seems dimmer than the old screen.

I did buy a used panel. Ended up replacing the CCFL with one I had from a previous screen I had in this laptop. Got a little better not much.

Nice. I'd love to see someon do this on a T6x

Congrats! And welcome to the forum!

Mine is fairly bright, brighter than the T42's original SXGA+ panel.

Didn't you borrow a 14.1" UXGA screen from a forum member and try it on a T60? What was the outcome?

I'm considering upgrading/changing the CCFL again to a new unit from http://www.lcdparts.net/ccfl.aspx .

Also, do all the 15" UXGA cables have the amber Think Light, or just mine, lol? I do like the clear light better.

I thought that the amber thinklight models were for the 15" R series ... The T series have always had the clear/white thinklight.
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

Ah, that's what it is. Just realized the cable I bought was from an R series. Thanks, I'll see about getting one from a T series then.

first of all awesome project.

Little off-topic - I have a dell inspiron 4100 SXGA as well and noticed that the LCD is much better than my T42's SXGA, thinking of swapping the 2, is this possible?

I had predicted failure because I had never seen reports of such a mod, so it was a very pleasant surprise. With a 6-cell battery and both RAM slots occupied, this 14.1" UXGA T42 weighs 5.44 lbs.
Pianowizard, or any one else, do you think this mod would work on the T40 in my signature?

Any thoughts?

PW, I just wanted to clarify something.

You mentioned that you tried the stock SXGA+ cable and it didn't work. Was this a problem with it being too short or not in the correct spot? Or it was different electrically?

Thanks.

I know a user in the UK who is trying this right now as we speak.
With this: Sharp LQ141U1LH02 14.1 LCD UXGA
I've asked him to report here how he fares (he'll probably report in the T6x Forum).

It was certainly different electrically. There might be a way to modify the cable's pins but I didn't (and still don't) have time to do the research. It's possible that the stock SXGA+ cable was also too short, although I don't remember.

I've owned >40 Thinkpads and this UXGA T42 remains my favorite. A T6* would be somewhat more powerful, but uglier and also not a true IBM, so I've never been interested in modding a T6*. But good luck to all of you who want to try the mod on a T6*.

@ intellution

the panel from the dell will not go striaght into the ibm
Pins 1 and 2 on the dell are gorund, on the ibm pin 1 is ground pin 2 power... so if u plug it straight into the machine you will kill you motherbaord.

Pin 2 has to be lifted and then it works, only tried this with a hitachi panel from a dell machine.

Yeah about the t60 uxga have sourced a sharp panel .. many thanks to RealBlackStuff in helping me with this.

Just not had time to try playing with it yet.

Hi,

perhaps anybody know if it's possible to replace the WXGA panel in a Z60t with a WXGA+ panel from a Z61t?

Hi,

first of all nice mod. I am amazed by your work... kudos..

now I would like to ask you

this Sharp LQ141U1LH02, is it the part number from inspiron dell?

I'm trying to change the screen of my inspiron 1420. I certainly hope it will work because my main laptop is ibm a31p with uxga screen.

now my inspiron is xga and it sucks to see the screen...

thanks

I am not sure but arent the Inspirons Wide screen 16:9 / 10. These UXGAs are 4:3.. Maybe your Inspiron is 4:3. Check before you buy.

That **WAS** a good price when I bought it 3 years ago. Considering that laptop values depreciate by about one third each year, the original T42 would be worth only about $125 now. But of course, I have upgraded three major components (UXGA panel, 250GB HDD, and 2GB RAM), which should bring its value up to around $250.
crashnburn wrote:I am not sure but arent the Inspirons Wide screen 16:9 / 10. These UXGAs are 4:3..
Thanks for answering that for me. Somehow I neglected to respond. Yes, the Inspiron 1420 is widescreen with an aspect ratio of 16:10. For 14.1" 16:10 panels, I am only aware of 1440x900 and 1280x800. 1680x1050 would be perfect for this size, but that was never made.
