Anyone with a T61 w/ a 14.1 SXGA+
I am trying to get an idea of what people think of the SXGA+ screens on the T61s..
So if you are one of those out there with one, what do you think? I'm worried about the terrible viewing angles and light leakage that I keep hearing oh so much about. Does the SXGA+ suffer from those same problems?

Just got mine two days ago. I don't notice any light spill. Viewing angles are just fine, maybe better than my previous T60p. But I've always been a fan of the 14.1" SXGA+ screen.

I apologize in advance for the crappy quality, sorry.
It doesn't do the screen justice.
Here are some I just snapped: 3 or 4 year old SONY LCD in the background, compare for yourselves:

And ditto what other people have said, it is much much better than the Intel 3495ABG card in my previous T60p. Stronger signal, faster transfer speeds, and no random disconnects.

Sure I can do that. I just had a gig stick of ram delivered so I'm gonna pop that in and make sure everything is good with that then I'll run see how 3DMark works out. This is gonna be without a clean install, I don't know how I could do a clean install without a Vista CD, seeing as Lenovo doesn't provide one.pheos wrote:Brad can you make some Benchmarks like with 3DMark and stuff kinda want to know how it performs compared to the 256 MB Quatro on the "big" t61p...
Mine is still stuck in customswont get it until Monday...

Yes please ! I collect all 3D Mark 2003, 2005 and 2006 scores for some data bases (aviable for everyone).
My actual large base use 3D Mark 2005 :

I will get the 3Dmark scores, just give me some time I didn't realize how huge that file was.

Off of a factory default system loaded with vista home pro, with the only updated drivers being the video card, I got a score of 1395 in 3D Mark 2006
Thats pretty bad I think. I plan to do a clean install of windows Vista once I recieve my upgrade disk, update all drivers and run it again. These are system stats:
Pent Core 2 duo
2 GHZ DDR2 PC2-5300 Ram
nVidia quadro NVS 140M
I think it should have been a bit more then 1395
Can anyone make a guess as to why this score is so low? I've never ran one of these 3DMark tests before, but I'm thinking/hoping it is this factory installed vista.

Sir, 3DMark05 numbers differ from 3DMark06 by huge figures. The former results are in 3000's and the latter in 1300-1500 ranges depending on the configuration of your Thinkpad T61 machine.BradS wrote:From what I read it should be somewhere around 3000, but meh... the only games I play are the olden goldens anyway.

3D Mark 2006 is about 1500 for Quadro NVS 140m. It's about 3000 for FX 570m.
3D Mark 2005 is about 3000 for Quadro NVS 140m. It's about 7500 for FX 570m.
Those 3000 scores can be confused for people who are not common with those benchmarks.

atheros and ordering page
thanks for the info, 2 questions...
1. how did you get to that cofig link? was if from the main lenovo.com site config page? When I try it I get to a model 8897 instead of an 8895
2. is the atheros a wireless N card? on your config page I see you checked 'wireless upgradable'. did you have to purchase a separate card somewhere?
thanks!

Ahh thanks for the info on the 3Dmark scores, I had never run that program before so I had no idea. I was seaching the web to see how well my score fared to other laptop and found something on the web that listed 3DMark scores for a T61 with the nVidia 140M and the score was ~3000. I figured I was looking at 3DMark2006 scores, they must have been the 2005 ones.
