A21m CPU Upgrade help!!!

#1 Post by iibilly » Wed Oct 27, 2004 3:44 pm

Hello Forum

I have a IBM A21m with a Intel PIII 800 Mhz. I recently purchased a Mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor M 2.2GHz can I change upgrade to this CPU without harming my computer? The pin size is the same and it does not take more voltage to run the cpu. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Billy

I seriously doubt if the chipset, busses, stc. for a P3 at 800 MHz would work with a P4 at 2.2 GHz. Completely different animals.

Even if they did by some miracle, how are you going to get a 2.2. GHz clock on an 800 MHz Motherboard?

Billy

Can you remove the CPU?

The CPU on my A21m is fixed and not easy to remove. Replacement would require a new mobo along with new CPU and would not be cost effective.

won't work with a P4, but I believe you can upgrade your laptop to a 1 GHz P3, which isn't really a significant upgrade (prob. not worth it)
