Slow BOOT caused by safetyChip
Slow BOOT caused by safetyChip
Hi thinkpad fanatics! I ust bought my thinkpad today, and I know its normal for the T60 to have a slow boot with all the thinkvantage software and stuff..
But when I start it up, after the XP boot screen it starts to check the onboard safety chip.. it says:
Wait...
Checking status for onboard safetychip (or something like that)
and it just hangs there for 42 seconds..
I've chosed to only log on with my fingerprint and not with password. Also I've saved all 10 fingers in the fingerprint software.. Could this maybe be the reason it takes so long to check the status of the safety chip or..?

Security chip and fingerprint device are two different things. You can disable both in "Protect my data --> manage security settings."
Or you can disable just one setting. I've disable all of them.

If I disable my safetychip it also can't use my fingerprint software.
I need the fingerprint software but I don't want it to take so long checking the status of the safety chip when booting..
also.. Even tho I've disbled the safetychip it is still checking the status of it when windows starts.. How do I disable that?
One more thing.. how do i disable password manager?.. that thing annoys the heck out of me.

Sir, Security chip [a.k.a Trusted Platform Module (TPM)] is not the part of your problem, Client Security Solution (CSS) is and Password Manager is a part of it. If you don't use CSS and password manager annoys you then just simply go to the Control Panel and uninstall it:
Control Panel > Add Remove Programs > ThinkVantage Client Security Solution.
Lastly, you will still be able to use Thinkvantage Fingerprint software as it and CSS are independent of each other.

CSS and R&R are two different things. You can still perform backups with R&R after uninstalling CSS. They are separate downloads afterall.

The fact that they are different programs has always been the case in the past. I have not read anything otherwise.
