Use Mozilla Firefox:

http://www.mozilla.org/

P.S. Sorry, I know its not really a solution to your problem. But try deleting user specific settings in the Explorer, try installing the Windows and Explorer specific updates, try lowering the internet security level...

You could be behind a firewall or your ISP must be blocking your access to ftp . This is the one reason lenovo provides http option for folks behind firewall.

For more info. please refer to this document.

I use a program called Beyond Compare that compares two folders anywhere including FTP sites. Very flexible and powerful, yet simple to use.

See if you can access the following ftp server:

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/

This will at least validate your router firewall configuration and Explorer issues - if any.

Thanks Syedj, after adjusting my explorer preferences on ftp validation I could enter the link you posted. Will try with the Lenovo´s one to see what happens...

If you are using IE7 then you have to tell it to open FTP sites in an Explorer window. It might be called "Enable FTP folder view (outside of Internet Explorer)"
