88Gig on a 100 Gig x61s drive?

#1 Post by mdlewis » Sun Aug 19, 2007 5:31 pm

Vista shows that I have an 88 gig on a 100 gig drive. Is the hidden R&R partition really 12 gig now? Whew...

No problems yet but I have spent most of the time removing software and turning off parts of Vista that I don't like... This is a great light machine for my daughter to take to college.

Thanks,

Mark

Hard Drive manufacturers use base 10 to calculate drive sizes, while OS manufacturers use base 2. Hence the brand new 500gb hard drive I bought only formats to 460gb.

If you don't do a format.

Just make sure you get rid of the HDD copies of the installs for programs you really don't want. After you uninstall them of course.

Second if you got windows ultimate. If you don't see your space being recovered. It might be because of Shadow Copy. It'll eventually free itself up without having to force it.
