T-30 did NOT restore to factory fresh. . .

#1 Post by Wayne » Sun Aug 19, 2007 8:53 pm

Gonna give my T-30 to my son. I thought I'd just do a restore to factory fresh. At the IBM spalsh screen I pressed F11 and did it. I thought. After XP Pro loaded it wanted to activate and asked me for the key. Did NOT do that when I got it. Activated ok and I continued. Now I notice that the drive is now formatted at FAT32, not NTFS. None of the IBM tools that were on the drive are there. I decide to do it again thinking I missed something. Reboot and F11 is not there! I still have the hidden partition.

What did I do wrong, and is there any way to do it again?

Thanks,

Wayne

wayne, check out the HD clone link in this FAQ thread
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewforum.php?f=31

towards the bottom of the page there is a paragraph about repairing the F11 function, it sounds like your install did not complete successfully, as it should convert to ntfs and have your ibm software, if you can't get this sorted out contact me as I had the same model and kept the recovery cd's.

I'll give the repair a shot, should have found that link myself but the machine has been so trouble free, I'm not used to trouble shooting it.

If I can't get it going I'll holler back.

Thanks,

Thanks again for your help. Fixed the MBR, did the F11, and it's back to factory fresh. A lot more went on this time, all options and utilities are back.
