Question on warranty and notebook usage

#1 Post by wearetheborg » Mon Aug 20, 2007 8:43 am

I bought a used T42 recently. The lable at the bottom has a 2004/ 06 date on it. However, it's warranty is till May 2009, and Lenovo's site says its a 3 year warranty.

Does this mean the latop was manufactured in 2004, but sold in 2006 ?

The date on the bottom of the machine is in the format YY/MM. Are you sure it isn't April 2006 rather than June 2004?

Is the 2009 date coming from Lenovo's site? If not, use the quick link at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... eLenovo.do to find out.

It could be a possibility that 3 years additional warranty service was bought after the near expiration of base-warranty. There was a time when IBM used to offer Warranty Service Upgrades (WSU) for even thinkpad T42 but not anymore, now.

But as nonny mentioned be clear on whether the numbers you stated are actually in YY/MM format or not.

Furthermore, you can get in touch with a rep or warranty assistant to make sure if there isn't any typo you're getting on the website too.

The T42 model hadn't been released in 2004.

My bad, I thought the format was MM/YY. The label at the bottom says 06/04.

So I got a year old T42

EDIT: Did they switcht the format ? I have a T40 which has 06/03 at the bottom, and which went out of warranty in 2006.
And my T30 has 03/01 at the bottom

Um no, it was released in 2004. You may be thinking of the T43
