GemPC Smart Card Reader Problem

Has anyone used a GemPC Smart Card reader with Vista (I'm using Vista Business on a T61)? I can't seem to get mine to install. I insert the card in the PC Card slot, but Vista does not auto detect with the add new hardware wizard.

I downloaded the Vista driver from the gemalto.com website. The readme file says I should insert the card wait for Windows to detect the hardware. I should see a exclamation point under the Smart Card Readers group. I should then click on the GemPC icon and load the drivers. The problem is I don't see a Smart Card Readers group in the Device Manager.

Anyone experience this problem?

I contacted customer support. It turns out that you need to put your smart card in the reader then use the card to push the reader into the PC Card slot. It is very difficult otherwise. Now Windows auto detects the reader.

However there is another problem. When you pull the smart card out the reader comes out with it. Is this behavior normal? I would expect the reader to stay in place unless you push the PC Card eject button.
