Ultrabay 2000 compatible drive?

Is there any reason why a SAMSUNG SN-S082D/BEBN DVD burner (Dimension (WxDxH): 128 x 127 x 12.7 mm - 5.0394" x .5" x .5") won't fit in a Ultrabay 2000? The standard Multiburner drive is a Panasonic UJ-840 DVD burner (Dimensions: 5.07"x 5.03" x 0.5")?

Whenever I add that the Samsung is in my TP600 bay, I keep getting the blanket response that it couldn't possibly work in a TP22. Yet the dimensions fit!?!

Maybe you could google the Ultrabay 2000 and your drive #.

Of course it won't recognize it if it won't fit in the ultrabay 2000 slot.

How does he get it into the slot, dimensions being equal?

Does the BIOS see it? Will a BIOS update see it?

Does Windows / Linux see it?

Maybe it would help if you'd say what computer you're talking about. If I understand the above correctly, you have a TP 600 (600E? 600X?). What does a T22 have to do with that? Do you want to put a drive that now is in your TP 600 into a T22?

Is that a question or a statement? At any rate, there are two things involved here.

One is where the interface connections on the drive are located. I mean those of the drive itself, not those of the drive frame that fits into the Ultrabay. If those of the SAMSUNG SN-S082D/BEBN and Panasonic UJ-840 DVD burners are identical, both should work fine.

The other is that the drive requires a frame to be put into the Ultrabay. Assuming the interface connections are OK as above, you can take the frame of an existing drive - for example a CDR drive - and mount it on the new drive. Then just insert it and it should work normally.

The frames for the 600 (600E, 600X) and the t2x series are different, so you'd have to use the correct frame for the computer you're thinking about.

I have a TP600 and am considering acquiring a TP22.

Previously I switched the DVD drive into the ultrabay frame for TP600 where it worked perfectly.

Based upon the physical dimensions listed on the internet my dvd drive and the standard ultrabay 2000 drive are the same size.

A net search cross referencing ultrabay 2000 and my samsung yields nothing.

Whenever I mention the possibilty of switching a dvd drive from a TP600 into an ultrabay 2000 frame and using it in a TP22 or equilavent machine, the knee-jerk reply is that can't work.

Initially I assumed the ultrabay 2000 drive must be much smaller. But when I began searching for this special smaller drive I realised that the dimensions were the same.

My guess would be that if you can fit it mechanically, the worst case is that the BIOS won't recognize it and won't boot from it, but if your OS uses the IDE chipset in native mode, it can access it without problems.
Anyways, i'm very interested in your findings, so please post follow ups.
