T30 : CMOS battery a pain to take out !!!

#1 Post by wearetheborg » Thu Aug 23, 2007 6:00 am

Its so hard to take out the CMOS battery, the wires come out of the black support, and I have to tug at the wires to get the connector out which cant be a good thing.
Then putting it back in is a pain, when I set the wires back into the black support, there is too much of a gap between the white connector and the support, so wires get bent when I try to plug the connector in

I can sympathize... the T2x series is a pain in this respect, too. Try using a dentist's mirror (small one on the end of a metal rod) to get the thing properly installed after replacement of the battery... that might help. Otherwise there's only one "easy" way to remove and replace the CMOS battery: remove keyboard, remove bezel (make sure not to break it, which is easy to do) and then you can finally get to the thing without problems

Now let's have a big cheer for the designer who made things this way

The T30 manuak says to take out the cmos, then remove the keyboard ?? Taking out the battery allows one to push up the keyboard from underneath..

Taking out the battery allows one to push up the keyboard from underneath..
Same thing in the T2x HMMs, but despite this instruction, you still don't have to remove the CMOS battery to get the keyboard out... if you are careful and use your little finger to push upwards next to the CMOS battery, that's quite sufficient to remove the keyboard. Just look for the aluminum underside of the keyboard and push on that.

Yeah, that CMOS is difficult to remove, though I found that after removing it that it was easier to insert it and remove it after...
