Just Got Wireless Broadband. Its pretty Awesome!

#1 Post by ll357355 » Thu Oct 28, 2004 3:45 pm

I just got wireless broadband a few days ago (Verizon). Its pretty awesome!!!
Im getting 300-700kb speeds and the performance is pretty [censored] good for a take-it-anywhere internet connection. It should give new possibilities for doing work/pleasure.....
Basically i can now connect to the internet from anywhere!! woo hoo. Don't have to worry about hotspots etc.

I can't get that service yet, but I got a Sony-Ericsson Edge card that does 110-150K and I would not be without that. Twice the speed of dial-up, works anywhere I go, and serves the needs I have. Only downfall is that the monthly charge is pricey. .... JDHurst

Yeah.. but the monthly charge is not bad considering the benefits ($79.00 per month + the cost of the adapter)....
Even 115kb is not bad!

My supplier's plan has three price points: $40 plus access and taxes for 7Mb monthly; $60 plus access and taxes for 15Mb monthly (the plan I use); and $100 plus access and taxes for unlimited usage. Prices in $Cdn. My plan fits me right now. I would have work hard mentally to justify the unlimited plan, but it would be nice :) ... JDHurst

Basically its a PCMCIA card (Verizon 5220), and some driver software.
The card is $299 - $150 (Rebate) and $79.00 monthly.

I live in Orange County, CA. The speed is very good.. (Obvoiusly it has a bit more latency than wired broadband, but its not bad). It works pretty much most places in the country, but some places don't have the broadband speeds that I get here.

The price is justifiable to me, due to the work i do. if there's ever a production problem, i never have to give the excuse 'im not near a computer'!
