File and Printer sharing keeps turning off

#1 Post by mientras » Thu Aug 23, 2007 6:42 pm

I have Vista Ultimate on a new TP61p. Other PC's on the home network are XP Pro and could not see the TP61.

Enabling "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" on the wireless network connection properties fixes this issue.

But the setting keeps turning off after a reboot or log-off.

I have removed Norton Protection (Only have Antivirus 2007), but the Vista Firewall is enabled.

I search the net and found others have the same issue - but have not found an answer that will keep the setting on all the times.

Any ideas? Thanks

Do you use Access Connections?
Using access connections you can setup the profile to enable or disable file and printer sharing so each time you apply a profile this settings is changed which might be the reason why it happen after each reboot and logoff. If you edit your profile in access connections and choose the "Additional Settings" tab then click on the settings button to the right of network security you have the option to check "disable file and printer sharing". If this one is checked try to remove the check for those profiles where you want file and printer sharing to be enabled.
I don't use Windows Vista, but i assume this settings in access connections work the same way as under XP.

That may be it. I use Access connections and the setting to turn it off was marked.

I will try it. Good thinking.

Thanks
