Readyboot Redux

#1 Post by Temetka » Fri Aug 24, 2007 4:05 am

Ok,

So Vista has been out for a while now.

I want to know if anyone has successfully used a PCMCIA / CARDBUS Compact Flash reader and high speed card to activate ReadyBoost.

If so what card / card reader work?

I like ReadyBoost and it does seem to help my machine, I just hate having a USB key sticking out of my machine.

Thanks in advance.

I've tried it with a High-speed SD card and an PCMCIA SD reader with no luck.

Yeah, I tried a 1GB High Speed SD Card in my PCMCIA reader. I could use it as a drive, but no readyboost option.

I also have a 512MB and a 1GB compact flash card (thinking of picking up a micro-drive soon) and they work fine.

That being said, my USB Flash Dives and USB Hard Drives have an option for readyboostl

Thanks and keep' en' coming.

I have a 16Gb Lexar ExpressCard which I bought from a photography store in NYC (Adorama, very cool place!) in July - I only wanted 4Gb for ReadyBoost but they had the 16 and it was cheap (compared with the UK, where it wasn't even available and the 4Gb was 4 times the price!)

Note that the Lexar card is ExpressCard interface but actually internally is USB2.0. But, it is still fast enough for readyboost functionality.

I honestly can't say Readyboost had much of an effect for me, although my system is pretty fast already (3Gb, T7700, Seagate Momentus 7200.2 160Gb).

Also it has some bugs: http://www.istartedsomething.com/?p=2069.

For now I think the jury's out.
T60p (2.33GHz, 2Gb)
T42p (2.13GHz, 2Gb)
X31 (1.5GHz, 1Gb)
