Question regarding TP setup after fresh install of XP Pro

#1 Post by chintapun » Thu Oct 28, 2004 5:54 pm

I've decided to fresh install my x40. I have managed to create CD with SP2 from my x40 as suggest in the previous post. However, I do have a few question regarding setting up my x40. I hope the fellow member can give me some clarification on these issues.

1) Apart from neccessary drivers, which IBM software should I keep.

2) What is IBM security software? I use my notebook to work on a few sensitive data, do I need this software to protect my data?

3) What is the difference between "IBM Rapid Restore v4" and "IBM Rescue and Recovery 2"? I can't find Rapid Restore download link anywhere on IBM. Is it included in R&R v2?

4) My x40 came with IBM Java. After fresh install of XP, should I use MS Java, Sun Java, or IBM Java? Which one is the best and cause least trouble?

5) I want to upgrade CDC modem on my x40 to have Blutooth as suggested in previos post in this forum. IBM Thailand refuses to order these parts for me. Where can I order it on the net? Can Bill ordering these parts and post it to me in Thailand?

Thank you in advance for all your answer

I'd keep all the software IBM provides for your ThinkPad. But if you want to discuss any specific one, mention it.

I don't know but I hear IBM security software is rubbish but again, it's free and can't hurt so keep it and use it but don't depend on it solely.

I heard IBM Rescue and Recovery replaced Rapid Restore, it's probably why you can't find the download

I'd use Sun Java but it's a personal preference. I don't believe any cause troubles to be concerned about.

I have no idea about the modem. Why don't you call IBM Singapore and see what they say unless Bill can help.
