T42 battery question. please help

#1 Post by CColdwell » Fri Aug 24, 2007 4:28 pm

I have a thinkpad T42 laptop, purchased 2005. The battery has been overused and I purchased a new one. I have a 2378FVU machine type.

the battery i purchased was a 9cell from: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000Q8 ... 83-2051149

I am having difficulties with the battery and I'm not sure what the problem is.

1) The battery indicator is flashing orange even when the battery is fully charged
2) I tried discharging and recharging the battery, still no good
3) I'm not covered under the IBM battery recall, so that's not a solution
4) Is the 9cell even usable with a T42? or would you have to use a 6cell.
5) When it is in the blinking orange condition and i use it off of AC power, and then reconnect to charge, it does not charge
6) rebooting clears the flashing orange problem but it reappears within a few hours

I would -greatly- appreciate any insight please

If the previous battery was working ok and this one is not it is defective, return it. 9 cells work just fine in a T42.

As Harryc mentioned, orange blinking battery light means the battery is not taking any charge and is definitely defective. RMA it immediately.
