OK..picked up a nice T40 last week. I thought the battery was just dead so I bought another battery.
When I slide the battery into the t40 unit, the battery charge light turns on (yellow) even though the AC is not plugged in.
It does not seem to be charging either..
Any ideas?? I did upgrade the Bios and embedded controller. THX

Looks like it may be the charging circuit on the motherboard or faulty (alittle loose) plug socket on back (but I doubt it)
I just dont have time these days to fix it...
Guess I will be posting in the Marketplace for sale this evening when I get some pics taken or local craiglist.
It is a beautiful, near new shape. Bright, clear screen, little to no wear on keyboard, casing etc..
Ah well....thanks for the help all

I had this problem with my previous t43....
bought on polish "e-bay" called allegro,
and it looked almost brand new from the outside.
every battery was drained whe the laptop was off and I couldn't charge it. in windows it looked all the time like the charger was plugged in even when it wasn't.
I sent it back and some service guy said that it was the charging circuit + north bridge.
IBM service said that it could be flooded near the power input and that is why the circuit was damaged.
I did not want them to repair it, but to give me money back.
They had repaired the laptop and it went "to the world" probalby as a not opened and fully functional.
