international selling online shop in US

#1 Post by aerials » Sat Aug 25, 2007 6:55 pm

Hello

I'm about to buy a Thinkpad T61, but I can't get the machine I want in Switzerland. I want a 14 inch 4:3 SXGA+ machine with Intel graphics, a combination that seems to be impossible here (we can't customize our models the way US citizens can on lenovo.com and they don't ship outside US).
Another problem is, that 4:3 T61 models aren't available here yet, but there are still some emails unanswered about that question.

So, could somebody point me to a reasonable priced online store where I would likely find the machine I'm looking for?

Ebay doesn't have anything yet and I seem to be completely unable to find an international shipping US shop.

Thanks for any hints!

It takes time to reach latest models in Europe & Asia. You'll have to wait. Even if you order from US via some vendor, you'll have to pay heavy custom duty.

Or else ask if some1 is coming to Swiss from US. These days many people travel freqntly. I done the same.

I got gift voucher from amazon.com. But they dont send electronic items to India due to custom restrictios. I asked 1 of friend who live in Indiana to claim the prize, order the phone and forward to Toronto. My company office is in Toronto. Software engineers will bring my parcel to India. Ha !!! Sound very long process. But within US , develivery is pretty fast. So ask some 1 to buy the laptop in US itself and carry it while coming. You'll need to start traveler hunting

First, welcome to the forum! This is the place when it comes to the most enthusiastic, the most knowledgeable and the absolutely most helpful user-community about IBM and Lenovo ThinkPad’s – period! Use it, and not the least feel free to contribute to it with feedback about e.g. your experience about how to purchase a ThinkPad in the USA, when outside the USA.

Well, your type of question has several times been discussed in the “GENERAL ThinkPad News/Comments & Questions” part of this forum, and I believe you may find some useful information in these threads:

Why is my T61p order so incredibly expensive?

Import T60 to Austria? Advice please!

Warranty is a very important issue to consider: Some ThinkPad’s are only covered by the warranty in the country where they are purchased, whereas others are covered internationally. Some ThinkPad’s comes with 1-year warranty, others with 3-year, but in all cases the warranty can be extended, and it may be cheapest to do it at the time of purchased (moreover, I have recently discovered that extending the warranty with international coverage is cheaper in the USA compared to doing this in Europe, and you also have more options in the USA!). Much has already been said about this, so I suggest you read these threads:

Extended warranties, buy now or later?

Warranty extension

Recently, I have had a long PM’ing (Private Message) with user Deo.G, who was in the same position as you. I therefore suggest you PM Deo.G and ask him for his advices – he ended up doing a very good deal! :-)

Good luck with your new ThinkPad-to-come!

Best regards,

Johan

My sister in the USA was so naive that she also gave me a gift certificate from Amazon. "Naturally" it was only redeemable in the USA, and equally as "naturally" no mention was made of this when it was sold. In this case, Amazon didn't even bother to pick an excuse out of the hat... they just informed me that the gift certificate was only valid in the USA - even though there is such a thing as Amazon Germany. I told my sister about this, and don't know what she did. If I had been her, I would have demanded my money back in no uncertain terms.
