Should I pull the trigger?

#1 Post by hay04002 » Sun Aug 26, 2007 9:29 pm

It seems Lenovo has been selling the T61 thinkpad at a decent price for a while. I really want to give it a try, especially when the standard 14.1'' SXGA+ LCD is back to the stock. (I personally prefer the standard LCD to wide one.)
My problem is that I've already got a bunch of laptops for both work and home, including T41, x60s, and a newly bought macbook. But it seems sooner or later the standard LCD screen will be ruled out by the tech trends. It's very hard for me to make the decision. Should I buy one now before the deal expires, or just live with what I already have and try to get an used one years later when my current laptops die?
Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

If you can wait, then wait. Technology keeps improving, and better things are on the horizon.
Nehalem is scheduled to be released at end of 2008,

SSD drives will be cheaper in 2009 etc.

We can also pray for better screens.

Technology will never stop making progress, a new thing will always pop up tomorrow.

Sir, I suggest go for it, not many manufacturers offer notebooks in 14.1'' SXGA+ these days and in the future lenovo won't be either.

There will always be the used laptop market....

Ofcourse sir, but I am merely talking about lenovo selling such a notebook as new and not used laptops markets.

Thank you both for the inputs.

That's my main concern.

The technology will be always progressing, which is for sure. I also believe the new LCD technology will emerge soon. But some times, the end users can hardly take real advantages of those "Hi-techs". After all, the product is made for profit, not for reputation. A little bit off the topic ;), I think I can stop here.

I also think you should get it right now. After receiving it, sell the T41 when it's still worth some money.

Sure, you could always wait for the 'next best thing' to be released. And if you follow that way of thinking, you will never buy anything!

My way of thinking-go ahead and buy it and enjoy using it for those months that you would normally be waiting for the new model to come out. And when that 'next best thing' does get released-and you just can't live without it-sell what you have to help finance the new purchase.

Hay04002-I myself (as well as many other's here) already have more computers than we actually need. I have a T60p widescreen, a T40, numerous T2x machines, a few 600E/X's, etc.-and I have a T61p SXGA+ on order. I have been thinking about picking up a Macbook myself, but in the meantime I am playing around with OS X on the T60p and T40. I say go ahead and place your order then sell the one you no longer need. The way its looking, it might be a month or so from now before you receive it.
I lost count...
