Vista Internet Access

#1 Post by edwin108 » Mon Aug 27, 2007 11:08 am

Hello,

On my ThinkPad T60, I can access the internet from IE, Firefox, Safari, System Update, and most other apps. However, Windows Update and Windows Live OneCare setup both cannot connect to the internet, they say that network problems are preventing them from connecting to microsoft. I have also uninstalled all firewalls/antivirus programs and I have also disabled windows firewall. What can I do to get Windows Update and Live OneCare to access the internet?

Thanks in advnace,

Edwin Suarez

If you have done all that, Windows Update at least should work. Check your privacy settings in Tools -> Internet Options. Sometimes those settings get in the way. ... JDH

I am not saying this is your problem or not, but several years ago I had a similar problem with Windows Update. I discovered that Windows Update worked fine with my dial-up connection, but it would not complete with my new DSL connection.

Eventually I came to realize that I did not set up my router with my DSL modem properly. I should have used a PPPOE connection between the two. IIRC I had to directly connect my laptop to the modem and change the configuration to not use DHCP. Then I had to configure the router to use PPPOE. Anyway, it was something like that. I only know a little about setting up a network.

I suggest you try and see if you can connect to Windows Update using a different type of connection or through a different access point.
