Keyboard on T42
Keyboard on T42
On the T42, the keyboard is a bit flimsy and flexible on the bottom right hand corner. Basically the keyboard looks as if it's not properly secured. I've checked to ensure the screws on the underside are tightened so what can I do to sort this issue out?

Well, one option is to use the search button at the top of the screen and find the zillion times this has already been discussed here.

Well thanks for that. Why bother posting at all if you have nothing constructive to offer.nonny wrote:>what can I do to sort this issue out?

For your information I scanned over a few pages and found nothing, and the search couldn't be narrowed down far enough to answer my question.

Seriously Nonny. Don't be like that...
I have heard of people putting business cards underneath to offer some more stability, but if yours actually feels like it's not attached right or something, maybe you are having a completely different matter.
I can't help too much, but I know a common place of less than great stiffness is around the palm rest that is over the PCMCIA slot thingies.

There was extensive keyboard discussion when the T42 was first released, but it's fallen back in the forum. I'll post some links below:

Bottom line is that some T42 keyboards are manufactured in China and some in Thailand. Most people prefer the quality of the Thai keyboards. If you call IBM and ask, they should send you a replacement Thai keyboard at no cost, with no need to return the old one.

Searching for the phrase "T42 keyboard flex" yields 25 results the first of which is 107 messages about getting IBM to replace the keyboard. The most recent message in that thread was 10/18/04.
Near the bottom of the results list is a thread from June titled "Fixing keyboard flex". How narrow do you want the search to be?
