Folks,
I have an IBM T30.
When this unit boots, it shuts down after a couple of seconds.
In order to get the unit to boot, I have to disconnect both the battery and the AC adapter.
When I connect the unit to an external monitor, it boots fine and works with the external monitor.
If I switch to LCD only, it shuts down immediately.
I have replaced the LCD, LCD Cable and Inverter.
The same problem occurs even with the LCD, Cable and Inverter disconnected from the machine.
Has anyone encountered this?
Any trouble shooting suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John Flaxman

John this is Reo the one that recommended this forum for you.
Did not know with inverter and LCD disconnected still had the same symptom. I do not know if it is hardware or software.
That’s why I recommended this forum.
These are some great techs, they should be able to help.
Again good luck and remember this forum for all your ThinkPad questions.

John, welcome to thinkpads.com!
I can find the following threads which mention T30 power issues, along with LCD:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=41479
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=44869
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=23726
Unfortunately, none of them offer any solution other than possibly replacing the motherboard.
As an aside: It's your prerogative to list your phone number and email in your profile signature but doing so puts it out in the clear in each one of your posts.

Thanks for your help
I appreciate your help on this problem. I think that the bad news is that the only way to find out is to try another motherboard.
