T61p NHC cannot downvolt, and where is powerplay ?

#1 Post by danny_isr » Tue Aug 28, 2007 5:31 am

i'm trying to downvolt it or reduce the speed of the Video card.
seems NHC can only show temp , but all the voltage section doesnt work.

and about the Video card, is it possible to limit the performance ?

another thing i noticed, (if i can trust NHC) my CPU is running at 2.2G all the time. doesn't matter what power setting i use...

i just download a small application that check the CPU speed. and it is actually 2.2Ghz all the time. no wonder my T61 is on the warm side ...

thanks Danny

Since Core Duo, it's not possible to lower the voltage used for the low freq (0,95 v). It's possible to lower the full speed voltage with RightMark CPU Clock (at least Core Duo and Core 2 Duo not Santa Rosa).

I don't know about NHC.

any idea why my CPU is on max speed all the time ?

check the BIOS to see if it's set to performance mode instead. Are you using Vista? IF so then Balanced setting should allow the CPU to underclock (even tho it probably wont to less than 1Ghz each core.) The Banias/Dothans will go all the way down to 600mhz to keep the system cool (that's my speed now) and i don't even hear it or feel any heat from the keyboard, just a lil warm from the vent on the side.

i did change it from performance to Balanced in the Bios. but it still on max. yes i am using Vista.

even on "max battery life" mode. or just running on batteries , it's stil 2.2Ghz

Did you also set it to Dynamic switching in processor speed management?

im pretty sure i did. but if i choose "Max Battery" or "energy star" etc... it should go to minimum CPU or AT LEAST to switching mode. but it's max all the time.

maybe my way of checking the speed is wrong.... how you guys determine the CPU speed ?

I check mine by means of the noise generated by my T43p :D
Seriously though I use NHC, it allows processor speed to be displayed in the tray.

well by NHC it's MAX 2.2Ghz no matter what power scheme i use ..
very weird .
i used another utility "cpuspeed" and get the same result. Beyond me...

what is impressive, if it is really 2.2Ghz all the time. it's not that hot for that speed... just on the warm side. cannot hear the fan.
