Total lunar eclipse *PIC* (5kb)
Here on the West Coast, we were treated to a great, almost four hour show in the sky last night. Well, actually, early this morning. I used my Canon A510 on a tripod with a 15 second exposure to get a couple of pictures. Here's one of them about 30 minutes before peak totality:

Figured I'd do an all-nighter since I was staying up until 4:30am to watch the eclipse. Have to take the younger daughter to school at 7am so I thought it would be easier to stay awake then it would be drag myself out of bed after only two hours of sleep.

It was a fabulous view from western Sydney! I didn't take any pics, but a friend of mine did - I don't think she'd mind me posting a link to them (some other randomish pics in the album, but they're clean):

I'm quite surprised that this 3.2MP Canon with only a 3x zoom lens got some passable pictures. Played around with a couple of settings and then settled on 15 second exposures, F8.0, manual focus at infinity, ISO 100. Maybe next February I'll mate a camera to my telescope and see if I can get some clearer pictures:

That one will be at a better hour; 7-8pm I believe for us on the West Coast.

LOL! Now that I look at the big picture (pun intended), the almost fully eclipsed moon appears to be a trackpoint cap!

I didn't try to get any shots at the peak eclipse time since I was having a hard enough time framing the moon. Could barely see a smudge on the camera's LCD to know that I was aiming at the right spot. The little bit of white glow at the bottom was the only thing that kept me pointed at the right area.
Kristian's friend got some very good pics too (fourth post from the top). I took about 20 shots; I'll see if I can get some of the better ones posted later today.

Very nice Ray.
Here on the East coast it was too close to the sunrise and it was already getting light when the eclipse started. Maybe I am just finding excuses for my over exposed pictures
