Want to regain space taken by hidden partition

#1 Post by Stargate199 » Tue Aug 28, 2007 11:30 am

I disabled the IBM desktop are which freed up that 5GB hidden partition that had the system recovery stuff on it. Can anyone recommend a free program that can take that 5GB space and incorporate it back into my primary Windows Partition? All of the ones I've tried are either demos or only work for FAT32, not NTFS. Thanks in advance!

What about Parted Magic Live CD? It's free, and though I've never used it on the HPA, I have used it frequently to resize my linux and windows partitions.

Well after asking around at school. I found a program that let me do what I wanted, so now I have reclaimed that 5gb of space. Of course once I fixed this problem, another showed up. Access Connections stopped connecting to wireless networks. I mainly need AC to connect to my school's network because it has TTLS 802.1x Authorization that Windows does not support on it own. The software that my school supplies is crap, but I just found a program called Secure W2 that fixed that problem. It also looks like that my school is switching to it now because of all the complaints they got from the software they were using. So now I'm debating if I should still use Windows Wireless manager or reinstall Access Connections again.

Sorry can't help you with AC problems but I am just curious which application did you use to remove HPA partition?

TIA.

I don't know exactly what it was, but it was a Linux Live CD that was able to mess around with the partitions. Ran a check disk and everything worked fine. I think I'm going to stay with the built in Windows wireless manager than try to use access connections. I like AC, but I always seem to have some sort of problem with it when I use standby or hibernate.
