i feel that this is rediculous. but ehh. i dont think that it is right that IBM refuses to come take a look at it. i mean, that looses business...
and the Transportation company should be held responsible for the damages, if it was handled correctly then they would have never had this problem in the first place.

Well why should they? I mean the shipping company dropped it!
Sounds like the shipping company’s management is as bright as its employees. If I had to guess, I suspect that the drive was driving way too fast when they hit the bump in the floor; perhaps T.R. Systems could sue the contractor that made the floor in the warehouse and the forklift manufacture for not providing proper suspension... or they could shut up and admit the fault is theirs. IBM’s lawyers will have little difficulty winning this one.

if they would have put a strap around the Box it would have never fallen off in the first place, quite frankly they need to shut up and pay up. they need to form an insurance program to cover up for their employees.

I once worked for a West coast company that made photolithography lasers used as light sources in microchip fabrication. Their lasers were also very expensive, although not in the $1.4 million range, but still expensive enough that it would have meant a pretty penny if some physical damage were to come to them it would make a big difference to their bottom line. I remember they used multiple layers of these huge wooden crates to make sure they could sustain at least some physical abuse endured on the way to their final destinations. Even on their production floors where these lasers were being assembled and tuned extra was taken to save them from scratches and such.

In this case I agree with Thane_Bitter, IBM shouldn't be held responsible for such a blunder.
