701CS -- can i add 32 MB RAM?

#1 Post by kazoo » Wed Aug 29, 2007 1:48 pm

I was told that I can add 32 MB RAM which, when added to the 8 MB on board, will give me 40 MB RAM, the max amount possible. However, when I looked at the Hardware Maintenance Manual, it seems to indicate that the most I can add is 16 MB for a total of 24 MB. Is that because they didn't have a 32 MB module at the time?

Yep, in fact 64MB is possible if you can find the chip, which is very rare. I snagged one on eBay from Canada years ago (same place that sold the 133Mhz system boards). It disables your onboard RAM, leaving you with the 64MB on the chip.
