slow vista boot up any solutions?
slow vista boot up any solutions?
got my t61p for 2 days...notice the boot up really does take a while to complete. is there anyway to make it faster while having css running thx
i think you already know that CSS is the problem because you mentioned something about it. Removing CSS fixes your problem and yes you can still use the fingerprint reader to log in with it, just wont have all the password manager stuff. You can type in your passwords when prompted.

ha and i remember MS talking about Vista awile back. that it will boot up in 3-4 seconds. let you have control and continue loading the rest of the OS in the background....yeah right., it does take long time to boot . not only that the whole thing is just sluggish .
my old T43 with XP is zippy with 5400rpm drive ...
i'm going to install XP with dual boot, and i'm sure then this T61 will shine

no, CSS is for the password manager and that stuff. Your fingerprint scanner will work still (if you have one) as i said before and other than that it's of no use to you if you don't.
As for Vista, well i definitely remember when XP was shaping up. I was in the beta team and it was doing decently but it wasn't no super monster. I think i had a 900mhz system then but even with that XP wasn't super fast and even after upgrades it stll wasn't fast. SP2 made it feel even more sluggish on the equipment at the time but once we all got our xGhz CPUs and had at least 512mb of RAM then yeah... it got fast. Vista is just in that same stage, if you're not ready for primetime then don't cry when the light shines on you.
I'm using Vista on my T42 and while it's no speed demon (compared to XP on this same machine) it's still fast enough for my everyday tasks. My analogy of driving a BMW and stopping for gas more often than a Honda still applies! Even if you gotta stop for gas, it's still a BMW!!

The following thread is for a X61s with Windows XP SP/2. Similar problem though.

Some tips to enhance Windows Vista Performance from lenovo.

I recently did a clean install of a retail copy of Vista Ultimate on a 1.8 GHz T60, with 2Gb of RAM and Intel 945 graphics.t61puser wrote:yea.. i am kind of dissapointed on how vista perform on these new thinkpads with all the not-so-useful lenovo add ons
The difference in startup time between just the minimal "must-have" Thinkpad drivers and adding a bunch of "nice to have" ThinkPad drivers and ThinkVantage utilities was minimal.
The bottom line is that Vista is slow to boot!

Will let you customize the recovery on only ThinkPads that shipped --after July of 1006. strips out all of the crapware - just never installs it as part of the factory recovery process.
PM me if you need help running it.
