Wh. performan. gain when upg. fr. 512MB to 1,5Gb RAM on R52?

#1 Post by indessen » Thu Aug 30, 2007 12:58 pm

Hello,
I have a Thinkpad R52 with 1,73Ghz Centrino and 512Mb Ram, running XP Prof. SP2.

Will there be a considerable performance (speed) gain when upgrading from 512Mb to 1,5Gb, i.e. by adding a 1Gb Ram-Chip?

I.e. less driveswapping maybe? Faster graphics?

Appreciate any infos!
Alex

It all depends on how heavily loaded your system is at the moment.
Take a look at Task Manager (Performance Tab) to get an idea of your storage load.

Just adding RAM for the sake of it need not improve performance.

Most (average) XP2 users seem to find 768Mb is a good amount. My T30 has that and runs well with XP2. My desktop actually has 1Gb but really only needs 768Mb.

If you have memory hungry applications or run many simultaneously then more RAM will be required.

Yes! The performance gain is immense. However if you just use your computer for surfing and mail, then it's not worth it.
