Most of the problems are with people who have 4 gigs of RAM.

I'm running 3gb. I had thought the problem was with dual channel ram and not necessarily the size. Still quite weird that for some, simply changing to dx9 would fix the problem. Of course, this isn't the total case because for others switching to XP (of which there is no dx10) would have problems still.

Ah well, I am still hoping for a software resolution....would rather not have to send my laptop in for new hardware if/when they figure it out as I have seen your problems in another notebook forum.

When I had the problem with Crysis demo, it was due to the driver. I accidentally loaded the XP 64-bit driver instead of the Vista 64-bit driver. After changing to the Vista driver, I had no more problems with Crysis. Though I have had my computer just shutdown with the Bioshock demo in DX10 mode with quite a few driver versions. One of the drivers worked ok but I forget which one. So I am hopeful that all the problems can be sorted out with good Nvidia drivers.

How much ram do you have rayman? Probably less than 4gb right?

Tselling - your issue I'm sure has to do with the fact that you have 4gb of RAM. This is an issue Lenovo knows about and is looking into. I had the same problem.

If you want a temporary fix you could try removing 1 of your RAM sticks, I bet the game will stop crashing after that... it has worked for everyone else I have talked to.

Hellbore, since I rarely have a problem with 4gb, I don't really feel the need to take out any. I am not sure if I just am lucky with my machine or what. I still think there is a bad interaction with the NVidia drivers and 4GB memory. This will hopefully be fixed with a driver and/or a bios update. I just completed the game FEAR with the 163.75 drivers without problems.

If the problem can be solved with drivers that would be fantastic.

Lenovo is working on this issue, hopefully they will figure out a definitive solution.

Hi burhan, I gave FSX a try, it runs better than my expectations. But I seem to have graphics issues in DX10 mode (only available in FSX Acceleration extention), I am still experimenting. The 570M card is a DX10 one, so I am looking for a driver that cures the problem.

I just got done RMA my T61p....2-3 months later i have a brand new t61p...because there was problems with the ram controller. As stated earlier you can remove one piece of ram and the computer works great, you have 2 running in dual channel and the thing restarts right at the beginning of the game. Just call lenovo and [censored] constantly, ohh and i had 2 1 gig pieces

i can answer any questions because for about a week i had 2 t61p and i had tried every type of driver and OS i could get my hands on....if you computer is restarting due to the RAM....call lenovo

OMG please stick around, we need to talk to you...

How do you know the problems were with the RAM controller ? Did someone tell you this? I have been communicating with Lenovo on this same issue and they tell me they don't know about this problem. Did you talk to someone who did know about it?

I also have been given a new machine to replace mine, but I don't have it yet. I will get it next month. For now I have a loaner laptop they are letting me use while I wait for my new one.

So here's what I want to know, you have a new laptop now right? Does the new one you have now still have this same problem, or is it solved?

I hope your new one is fixed, that would give me some hope. I am worried whether my new one will have the same defect as my old one. In fact right now I have 2 T61P's, one is the loaner they sent me to use while I wait, and the other is the original laptop, which they have sent back to me from the depot, but I have to send back to them because I'm going to get a brand new one.

So is your new one fixed? I hope so... you gotta tell us all about this...

Where is the RAM controller located? If possible, I could just order a new RAM controller, install it myself, and have the dual channel memory issue solved. I hate to go without my laptop as I need it every day.

LOL... I really don't think it's removable unless you plan on desoldering it.

That makes perfect sense though, a problem with the RAM controller sounds exactly like what would cause these problems!! I'm excited to hear more about this.

i do have a new laptop and it currently is working fine other then Crysis problems....but we all have thows.....i am currently running xp pro after using vista 32 then xp pro then vista 64 and now finally back to xp pro....(i have alot of free time at work) my computer is playing games fine i was running a 13 gig HD movie and team fortress 2 works at like 40-50 fps with what STEAM defaults the video to at 1440x900 i think......as for crysis i am using the 169.04 drivers but the game is running very slow..even on low at 1400x900..so i gotta mess with it some more.... all you need to do is wait and pray the new one inst broken.

I figured out that it was the ram controller and basically convinced them to send me a new one. My old laptop wouldnt play game or HD videos or any "graphically intensive" applications.....that is what i told lenovo....my old laptop would only run with one stick of ram thus concluding that is wasnt drivers or os install it was a defect in the laptop.....i even testes 3 different types or ram i had at my house....with the same problem.......funny enough with only one gig of ram i still got almost 4000 in 3dmark 2006.........put the second gig in and insta restart.......

When you say old and new laptop, what exactly do you mean? Are you saying you got a laptop recently but sent it in for repairs and Lenovo got you a new one, or something else?

k1ll3r667, I would like to know more about how you got dual channel memory to work with games.

The Lenovo tech guys at Atlanta are a pain, and they wouldn't listen to your problem especially when you mention you play games. I would like to know how you got a new laptop that works perfectly.

Well I got 2 GB RAM and I have problems with 3D graphics and games. It's not the amount RAM, it's the dual channel issue that's causing the very problem we all have. I have 2 1GB memory stick, and it's causing lock ups and graphical artifacts to be displayed. The reason why systems with 4GB have this issue is because they don't yet make 4GB SO-DIMMs, so your only configuration for a 4GB RAM system is 2 2GB RAM memory sticks, which uses dual channel memory feature.

Right, from what I've read, it seems the people who don't have trouble are using either one ram stick of 1 or 2 gb or two sticks totaling 3 gigs (2 gb + 1 gb).

My new T61p will be arriving in a couple of days. I suppose it will have this same problem.

I tried 2GB and 1GB sticks together and it's the same problem. As for your new laptop, it's very likely that you also have the dual channel memory issue.

Well, I am not sure about that, but I did test out one 2GB stick and another 1GB stick, and the result is the same, still 3D games lock up and displays graphical artifacts.

So, dual channel or not, 2 memory sticks running on the T61/p equal 3D disaster.

correct. modules must be matched in size to run in dual-channel mode.

sorry i have been gone for a few days.....school sucks.......dual channel only refers to matched pairs of ram of the same size. I did have a t61p that i ordered in July and got the laptop in aug 13 or something. I then discovered the graphics problem. And contacted IBM ohh my bad lenovo.....and used the word graphic intensive applications....not gaming.....that was crashing my laptop. The IT people at lenovo our useless. I told them that i would cancle my credit card payment on the $2000 dollar laptop if this didn't get fixed. and 2 months later i have a brand new one and sent the broken one back. It you want to play games on the T61p use xp pro 32 for the best framrate.........i am using 169.09 laptopvideotogo divers to play crysis fine and Counterstrike source and team fortress 2......however other games do not run on the 169.09 drivers like the new need for speed game........so sadly i have to instal and unistall drivers based on the game i wanta play.....come on Nvidia .........time will tell
