Have you enabled the device in your BIOS as well?

Press F1 when you are in the IBM splash page and it will send you to the BIOS page; in the BIOS page, go to config and can you see the word infrared?? Go ahead and enable that device and press F10 to save everything and exit.

**If you have already enabled the infrared device in both places and it still does not get to work, check your device manager to see whether there is any yellow ! or not.. If not, then it might be a bad infrared device soldered onto your TP motherboard or that circuit is simply not working..**

HTH :P

You might need to push the phone against the laptop's infrared port. Just yesterday, I tried to get two of my Thinkpads to connect via infrared and at first they couldn't. So I freaked out thinking that one or both of the ports were defective. But then I moved the ports really close to each other, and they connected.
