Broadcom bcm94311mcg mini-pci + T23 (2647-4mg)
Broadcom bcm94311mcg mini-pci + T23 (2647-4mg)
Would these fit together successfully, A friend of mine evacuated the broadcom when he upgraded to something or other so i got it for free.
But before i start unscrewing my T23 i just wanted to get some feedback from you guys on any pitfalls that i might encounter.
So will they splice ?
Will i get some stupid 2 ethernets detected errors, and if so could you kindly point me to the thread with the solution.
As allways, humbly awaiting your sage wisdom.

All you need to do is unscrew the bottom lid, remove the card (if any) that is in there, and off you go.
It should be compatible, according to this website:
http://www.station-drivers.com/telechar ... 10.47.html
Connect the Broadcom card and boot up. If it works you are in business, if not, report back.
If there is the standard wifi/modem card in there, you will lose the modem possibility.

Your system is a 2657-4MG:
Also, you will need to run antennas for your card....
As RealBlackStuff said you will lose your modem...Product: ThinkPad T23 2647-4MG [change]
Operating system: All [change]
Original description: PIII-M 1.13GHz (512KB), 128MB RAM, 30.0GB HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 8X-3.3X DVD-ROM, Modem(MPCI), Ethernet(CDC), TV out, Li-Ion battery, Win 2000
Also, you will need to run antennas for your card....
Thanks for the answers.
There are these 2 black wires dangling from the broadcom, i suspect that these are the antennas. Is the antenna installing procedure explained in the maintanance manual, or is there allready a thread I could look up here to avoid any blunders. The card came with no manual as it was just handed to me with the comments "Hook this up and loose that stupid looking PCMCIA wlan card"
Also I remember seeing a topic about making an connector in the back if the T23 for an external antennae, is this procedure even remotely recommended/proven/wise? ( I do have a dremel(knockoff) tool so i maybe could drill a hole in the machine.
Using logic i could assume the antennae go somewhere inside the display enclosure, this seems to me about as much work as to make an external connector point for an antenna in the back and maybe even be safer due to not having to dismantle the display enclosure. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

I tried searching for BCM94311MCG and found some pictures which suggest it does NOT go into the MiniPCI slot. Here's an example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0089646526
Is that what you have? If so, the edge connector is not for a MiniPCI slot and may be something proprietary to the machine it came out of.
I have had success using a slightly different Broadcom card in the T23 (and 600X): BCM94306, of which there are a couple of versions (BCM94306MPG and BCM94306MPSG). Either will work in the US; you made need to check your local standards. I know that the "SG" card is certified for use in Singapore.
The antenna placement in the display lid may not work too well given that the metal in the lid will interfere with the WiFi signals. You may have better luck mounting the antenna under the keyboard bezel, between the end of the battery compartment and outer edge. I'll search the archives and edit this post when I find the relevant threads.
