Did You Ever "Dent" a Hard Drive?

#1 Post by CRSO » Sat Sep 01, 2007 9:43 pm

Go figure, I have been keeping my 2.5" Ultrabay drives in a pink bubblewrap package for 3 months now. I finally broke down and got a thinkpad pouch off of eBay (supposedly everyone here knows her and they're legit) and BANG, a nice big dent in my new 160GB Hitachi rendering it useless.

Thank god that I backup...
I'd rather have a 3 year old IBM than a new Dell (or HP)...

I guess you got the cases from thinkpads-r-us ... sorry to hear about your HDD, did you drop it accidentally?

I sure did. Are they that bad? They look like a cheap case I'd get on the streets of NY for a buck with Thinkpad embossed on it.

Where can someone get an actual IBM case?

No, I had it in the case in my backpack and all of a sudden I have a huge dent it it. Looks like I'm going to throw this thing out (burn it)...

In her defense, she refunded my $$ and said that I am the ONLY pne that complained about the quality.

thats bad ... I got 2 cases from nancy a few months back, and they were awesome ... they definitely were of good quality and I think they were OEM. I keep my T23 ultrabay caddy+HDD and my portable USB HDD in them, and have not had a problem yet. I gotta be more careful in the future I guess ...

FYI, the cases I got looked exactly as in the pics she has on her ad. They were not new, but were in excellent condition.

Was your HDD under warranty?

That's another effective and cheap method to protect your drives. I don't find anything wrong with your method and it is good. They are just crazy about the thinkpad logo and wanted something with that thinkpad logo to contain their drives.

Did you see this thread?:

EDIT: Duh, I see that you did.

Again, I didn't buy from that particular seller, but my gut tells me most of these cases sold in quantity right now from the different eBay sellers are from the same source. If you could post a picture of the case you got, especially of the internal label, logo on front and trimming (if frayed) then it could be confirmed.

Even if it's true, the fake/second I received will serve their purpose. I'm just a little annoyed that they are of such low quality.

gator, the description of the ones I bought were the same, and they did bear a resemblance to the listed picture, but you could tell these were never sold via an authorized dealer. They were either bad stock, or plain fakes. Can you ppost pictures of the ones you got? (especially of the same areas I asked about above)

Thanks. That might clear up whether she has the same ones. :)
