Looking for an in-car GPS system
We are looking for a GPS system for in the car, with spoken road-names.
Should be easy to move between cars.
Maps for USA and Canada. Preferably (a lot) less than $500.-
What are your experiences/recommendations with make/model and why?

Though I use a Holux compact flash GPS with a Toshiba M200 tablet and MS Streets and Trips myself but I have first hand heard very good reviews from owners of Garmin Nuvi 350/360 and other Nuvi GPS systems (660 and etc). The only gripe that I have heard about them is that the volume control is accessed through menu's instead of having a wheel button. I personally like their cigarette case form factor as well - which makes it easy to either hide them or carry along whenever the vehicle is left parked. If I were to switch to a portable GPS system, Garmin Nuvi would be my first choice.
In other noteworthy offerings, Harmon-Kardon and Alpine also came up with new GPS models. I was a bit excited about products from both these companies but they are not getting good reviews thus far. I guess their next generation will have better interface and satellite acquisition time - or at least one could only hope.
IHTH.

I have a Garmin c550 which I like a lot. It has bluetooth so it syncs up with my cell phone and becomes a handsfree phone, has real time traffic (works in some cities) which is helpful, and speaks the road names. You can get these now on ebay for under $400. Costco has the c580 on sale online for $350 which is a really good price.
