A20 Display Dark

#1 Post by fuzzypup » Sun Sep 02, 2007 11:02 am

A20m with 15" SXGA + TFT display. New install of XP Pro using IBM restore disks. Computer was operating great until my son bumped/dropped? on side and broke a pcmcia wifi card. I replaced with a new card and booted ok but later the screen went black. XP continued to operate based on bootup sounds and wifi card activity.

I replaced the entire display unit with a known working 14" XGA + TFT unit from an A30 thinking the 15" had internal damage. No problem with disassembly and reassembly but computer booted to a black screen. I attached an external monitor and computer is operating properly. Fn + F7 will toggle the external monitor off and on but no flicker on the LCD. Fn + Page Up activates the ThinkLight at top of display so the display appears to be powered. XP says the display is operating properly and display properties all appear normal. Screen brightness is set to maximum but nothing on the display. Tried PC Doctor but all display and video tests show only on external monitor.

Is there a setting I am missing that will activate the display?

Thanks for any suggestions.

A30 Dark Display - Correction

#2 Post by fuzzypup » Sun Sep 02, 2007 12:59 pm

Sorry first post here. The thinkpad is an A30 that had a 15" display that was replaced with an A30 14" display. Sorry for the confusion.
