T2o lcd upgrade

#1 Post by nicmdp » Sun Sep 02, 2007 11:46 pm

I have researched the forum and note that the T20 is not SVGA compatible...has anyone attempted to do it, or is this simply stated because it wasn't initially available?

I have a perfectly functional T20, pretty much maxed out as far as it goes, with a scratch on the polarizer that I find distracting. These things are cheap these days; nevertheless, I am considering changing out the display,

Other than getting a direct replacement, what are my options, resolution, glossy (vice getting an original and getting a highgloss polarizer from screentek.com), or an replacement form a later moder with theoretically higher performance, eg r30 or r40 etc?

Thanks in advance

better screen

The original screen with a high-gloss polarizer sounds like a good idea. Each LCD uses a different connection to the motherboard. I believe they are compatible between the t2x series and not with anything else, but you probably shouldn't quote me on that one. As for sxga, the graphics cards in those are not designed for that resolution. I can't find a high-gloss screen for those either, so you really are stuck.

If you look up T21 in the Tawbook, you'll find XGA and SXGA+ models, which use the IX8 and IX8+ graphics cards respectively, suggesting that the IX8+ might be required for SXGA+. The T20 only has the IX8 card.

I might have an SXGA+ T21(2647-5AU) for sale in a week or two. It will be pretty cheap, perhaps $180 shipped. If you're interested, keep an eye out for my for-sale ad on the =http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewforum.p ... arketplace.

More assistance

The same part number for t23s was used on r32s and r40s; so backwards compatibility is likely.

Has anyone actually tried an SXGA+ conversion?

There is enough ram, and the resolution is supported on an external monitor...
