What does tvt_reg_monitor_svc.exe do
Hi all
I've just recently received my T61p and have noticed tvt_reg_monitor_svc.exe taking a lot of processing power sometimes. This is not a problem, but I was just wonder if this process is really needed, and if not, how do I disable it.

Sir, that's part of lenovo ThinkVantage Productivity Center. If you've up-to-date antivirus then you don't have to worry about the process.

Did you ever find out? I am wondering about it too. I do not even have the Productivity Center on my X31.

That service is part of the Rescue and Recovery product. Its purpose is to keep the registry in your normal Windows environment and your Rescure and Recovery environment in sync. In most cases, the service is not needed and it can be safely disabled without causing any harm to your system. Of course, if you don't use Rescue and Recovery at all, the best thing to do is uninstall it from the control panel. Hope this helps.
Hi someotherguy. Thanks of the reply.
My X31 OS installation is from the XP SP2 Recovery Discs, which is about three or four years old, so all the IBM apps were updated to the Lenovo ThinkVantage ones. I have all the ThinkVantage apps, drivers and services that I think are appropriate for the X31.
So I still do not get the Productivity Center, or Rescue and Recovery like I have on the X40.
These are the two services that I do not understand:
ThinkVantage Registry Monitor Service
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Lenovo\tvt_reg_monitor_svc.exe
TVT Scheduler
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Lenovo\Scheduler\tvtsched.exe
As I do not have the Rescue and Recovery Environment on the X31, I disabled both services.
Do you think this is okay? Do you know what the second service does, TVT Scheduler?
The wifi on my X31 is usually very reliable, but today is has stopped working. It cannot connect to anything.

The TVT scheduler service is responsible for scheduling events in the TVT software. For example, in Rescue and Recovery it is possible to schedule a backup (e.g. every day, every week, etc). In Thinkvantage System Update, it is possible to schedule updates (e.g. every day, every week, etc). The TVT scheduler service makes all this possible. You don't need the TVT scheduler service if you don't have these things installed or don't need automatic backups/updates etc.
As for your wifi problem... Do you use access connections? If so, did you recently update it or update the wireless LAN drivers? Maybe some recent update broke the wifi support on your X31?

I think disabling the Registry Monitor Service, in my case, is going to be fine, as I do not have Rescue and Recovery on the X31.
My (normally very reliable) wifi has started working again, after I re-enabled the TVT Scheduler service. This may be a coincidence. I'll disable it again, as I do not need it, if what you say it does is correct.
I do use Access Connections, and I did update it in the last couple of days, to v5. Last night was the first time I connected at another location, since the Access Connections update, and me disabling the TVT Scheduler service, so next time I connect elswhere I should be able to determine whether I need the service, having disabled it again. I'll keep you posted, if I find that it is definitely needed by Access Connections, for the sake of the archives.
Cheers
