Composite Video output on T61p?
Composite Video output on T61p?
Hello,
I've been the proud owner of a T40p for almost 4 years. Been waiting on the santa rosa chip set and luckily I made it. T61p actually came 2 weeks early (in <5days) so now just waiting on the Hitachi 200gb drive with BDE to complete the migration.
Anyways so far I'm ok with the new computer. One thing that came as a surprise though was the lack of a svhs output. How are you supposed to send the 2nd monitor output to a television? May seem trivial but I travel nonstop and it was always nice to output dvd's or downloaded tv shows to the television in the hotel.
Does anyone have a suggestion how to overcome this? Not many tv's have vga in. Hoping not to have to add a vga conversion box to my overloaded carry on.
Thank You,
Alex

well the only thing you can do is to get a TV out card or some USB docking station or something. Most companies have removed SVideo so you'll have to use VGA or DVI (in some laptops)
It sux when people have old outdated electronics but not everyone can afford a nice new shiny machine with all the newest stuff
Sometimes that's the price we pay to be on top.

I use a small box that transforms the vga signal into composite/s-video

It does a decent job and cost below 100$

I searched and read every single post that came up but no one seems to have a solution they are that happy with.GomJabbar wrote:This question has been asked here a number of times in the past. Do a search on the T6x forum using the Search button at the top of the page. You can try using S-Video for your search term.
There are some solutions, but I believe they all cost from around $100 on up.
If anyone has a good solution (available in US) for someone who travels and does not add significantly to weight please post. Of all the things I have found they are either rated very badly, not rated at all or huge.
Thanks,
Alex
tomh009 pointed to probably the cheapest solution that will work in the following thread.

It is indeed unfortunate that Lenovo decided to abandon S-Video or a TV-out option in the T6x series. This is one of the reasons I still am using a T42.
Not that this will likely help you out, but several months ago I bought a 15" XGA LCD TV/monitor that has multiple inputs including a VGA input. I discovered that watching DVD's from my T42 throught the VGA port gave a somewhat better viewing experience than using S-Video. I bought the TV/monitor for around $200 at Circuit City. Circuit City no longer carries this particular TV/monitor, but there are other similar ones available.

Yes, it has definitely been abandoned on the T6x series. There is talk of a new TV out port coming out on ThinkPads at some date in the future. I forget what the technology is called just now. it was mentioned by Matt at Lenovo blogs several months ago.1percent wrote: So this is definitely been abandoned in the T61p? Anyone attempt to have the SVHS signal wired through the VGA port?
Yes, others have tried the VGA to composite video adapters, such as what work with the Apples, but there is no S-Video signal routed to the VGA port on ThinkPads (unlike some other manufacturer's notebooks). So these adapters do not work.
