Where did Umatico_SafeGuard_PrivateDisk go?

#1 Post by LasseFJ » Mon Sep 03, 2007 2:13 pm

I got my Ibm Z61m preinstalled with a program called Umatico_SafeGuard_PrivateDisk.

After i got the vista upgrade, (i did the 2x upgrade trick to get a clean install), it was gone, (of course it was).

Is that program not available for download at lenovo? I can't seem to find it there!

Sir, there are many softwares, lenovo preloads on it's machines that are not retail versions. These are usually provided by 3rd party vendors that pay lenovo to bundle them (on the systems) under agreement, they're either oem/trial/corporate versions and can only be used with lenovo preloaded factory image and not on a clean install.

To install the version that came preloaded with your machine you'll have to buy it from lenovo / Utimaco or will need to restore your machine back to out of the box factory settings.

I'm not sure if there is a newer version of privatedisk preinstalled on the Z61M, but you can download privatedisk from Lenovo using the link below.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-57272

That's the last version available for download from Lenovo as far as i'm aware of. Unless you deleted the hidden recovery partition maybe it can be found there as well....not sure.

Another option is to use truecrypt which is basically the same thing and free or if you are willing to pay for encryption software there are many to choose from that got more features as well and it's not very expensive.

EDIT: By the way.....i assume you now use Vista since you posted in this forum.....did you receive the PC pre-installed with Windows Vista/privatedisk or Windows XP/privatedisk? Because i cannot find any version of privatedisk that is supported under Windows Vista.

The version that is preloaded on newer thinkpads is 4.x. The download link is for 1.x version.

It is part of the Client Security Solution software bundle. Here are all the versions of CSS that I can currently find available for download.

(English) Client Security Software v5.43 including File and Folder Encryption and SafeGuard PrivateDisk

As ryengineer pointed out, the above version of CSS contains an early version of PrivateDisk. I do not know which version(s) of PrivateDisk are included in the links below.

ThinkVantage Client Security Solution v6.00.0027

Client Security Solution v6.01

Client Security Solution v6.01.0037

Client Security Solution v7.00.0022.00

Client Security Solution 7.00.0035.00

original Private disk do not support Vista.

Utimaco recently release a Vista version of SGPD.

I do not know if there is any agreement to include new SGPD in CSS8 I need to check..

but of course you can download from their website..
