#1 Post by TomKroscavage » Mon Sep 03, 2007 2:50 pm

Has anyone tried to put a 701 upper casing and keyboard on a faster computer? how could the keyboard be connected?

I've been thinking of such a mod for quite a while, and I also think connecting the keyboard will be the biggest problem. I have planned to look into it sometime next semester. II could imagine that some kind of usb interface may be a solution.

The keyboard is connected to the mainboard via two standard flat cables so one only needs to find a connector with enough pins and distance between.

I only thougt of it because I read about connecting a laptop keyboard to a normal PC somewhere on the web. I'll post a link If I can find it.

Well personally I'll doubt it will work straight away, due to keyboard mapping and even getting the electrical connections right, but certainly worth a try. How do you wan't to root the two connectors of the 701 to the electronics of the keyboard which will probably only have one to none connectors inside?

Soldering around on the 701 keyboard will probably render it useles for further use with the 701 systemboard. I have a quite battered spare keyboard to mess about with so theres no problem for me.

Please keep informing about your process.

EDIT: just do a google search on "keyboard hack" and you can find out all about the workings of keyboards.
Heres an example: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1 ... 427,00.asp
