Why are all the new Thinkpads CTO?

#1 Post by RonS » Tue Sep 04, 2007 1:25 am

In the past, Thinkpads were given model numbers like 2007-DDU where DDU represented a fixed set of configuration options. 2007-CTO would be "Configure to Order" where you could specify a custom configuration, sometimes at a slightly higher price.

I just ordered a T61p and I didn'tt see any models other than CTO. Two months ago I bought three T61 machines, and only saw CTO as well.

Does anyone know why this is?

Sir, lenovo has moved preconfigured systems to "Buy Today, Ship Today program". Please call 1-877-884-4658, Option 1, ext. 7198 for more info.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

lenovo stated somewhere that they were moving to a CTO model of selling machines to the general public.   the ones buying preconfigured models are larger corporations buying in bulk and they're given spec sheets of the preconfig models (like what's published in the tabook) to aide in purchasing.

anyone can still buy preconfig models.   you just have to know the model number and call in your order rather than placing it online like the old days.

Unless of course you live in Canada where they seem stuck on selling you pre-configured models and don't even make CTO available!*@#%&*
