A21p - change Display to 1024x768

#1 Post by mp345 » Tue Sep 04, 2007 9:54 am

Hello,

did anyone ever change the display of an A21p to XGA?

Here's a Mainboard from an a21p that i'd like to fit in an A21m with a toasted board. After powering on the screen is "zoomed" and some parts of the picture are missing :(

You need to get an XGA cable. Go to this site to look up what you need.

Can you give me the 7-character product numbers of the A21p and A21m? Just curious what you have.

Hello pianowizard,

funny, that was my first posting :D I've been reading for a long time here, upgrading my 770ED, X, Z and 760XL and so on ;-)

The cable belongs to the XGA-display, i did not open the whole display - knowing the T23 recognizes the Display via the correct cable.

Currently no idea :(

edit:
2629-HTG broken A21p-base - just took the board from it
2628-GWG toasted A21m
2629-ABG still running

Check Display Properties to see if the resolution is really set to 1024x768. If it's a higher value, that would explain your "zoomed" problem.

Another thing is, that page I linked to shows three different kinds of XGA cables. You might need to get one of the other two.

Hello,

just to add some details:
A21p-board: 08k3265
A20m-board: 08k3264

"zoomed": even in BIOS the screen is zoomed, the lower third is not visible. XP did not start correctly, ended with a bluescreen

Getting the other LCD-Cables may be complicated in germany, i should better seek a 08k3264 board - or do you have any idea of prizing?

idea: Bios "update" with a A21m-BIOS?

I had this problem once, when I put an SXGA+ screen from a T42 into a Dell Inspiron 4150 which was designed to use a UXGA screen. What's different from your case was that I could load Windows 2000 just fine, no blue screen.

I think the BIOS might be a problem, but flashing an A21p board with an A21m BIOS might permanently damage the board. The easiest and safest thing would be to buy a whole new A21m. They are under $150 these days.

Next week i get an A21p with graphic errors- the onboard-graphic should be defective, not the LCD. I'll put this board into the new A21p and will try to flash the partly broken A21p-Board - frying the broken one is not a problem ;-)

more next week,

thanks, Martin
