Wrong model number after bios update

#1 Post by chan_man » Tue Sep 04, 2007 8:35 pm

Not sure what happened but I was updating the bios on a R50P and afterwards the product (model) number is wrong, it now reads 0124-456. If I use System Information from Thinkpad Configuration it is right 183222U.

The bios was updated with in windows version, not via diskette.

What can I do to fix this? with this wrong, software installer no longer works.

That's a pretty unusual one...if it happened to me I'd pull out the BIOS battery, then put it back after a few minutes and start from scratch...

If that doesn't work for you, try flashing the BIOS to the previous version or try running a Thinkpad Maintenance Disc to change the information manually.

Harry, good suggestion, I managed to get V1.75 of the Hardware Maintenance disk, booted the system up to check what was in the bios and it is right. So I tried the Auto-Detect function from the Lenovo page and it still comes up with model number 0123-456.

Why is Internet Explorer getting the wrong machine number?

The issue with the wrong model number (0123-456 or 0123456)was resolved by updating to the latest BIOS version 3.23 (1RETDRWW), which has a utility which during the bios installation ask you for the actual machine type-model number.
The specific BIOS can be found here:
