T43 (2668-CMU) Ram upgrade

#1 Post by Springdale » Tue Sep 04, 2007 8:46 pm

Hello, I've purchased 2x 2GB Centon DDR2-5300 (667/533/400) and it only reads one 2GB ram stick. When I put both ram sticks in I get 3 beep sounds and my notebook will not post. If I've put a 2GB ram chip with the orginal 512MB that came with my notebook, this BIOS reads it, but windows Vista ultimate does not (It only sees 2GB). Currently, I have the 2GB ram chip under my keyboard and the 512 on the bottom of the notebook.

Anybody know how I can get my thinkpad to read both 2gb ram chips? I find it strange how it can read one full 2GB ram chip, but can read the other. Any help would be great! :D

your system can handle a max of 2GB, not 4GB so it will only work with 2 x 1GB sticks.

that stinks, because it reads a full 2gb chip fine.. Again, it's strange how the notebook can't read anoter 2gb, but will see a diffrent ram chip with the 2GB installed. There has to be some bios hack out there? lol

BTW, would you happen to know where that floppy file is that can get rid of the 2010 hard dirve error message? http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=20858 Found it in that post.

I have the BIOS on my T43p read up to 3gb with a few combinations of 2gb and 1gb chips. Unfortunately as you have found out there is a limitation by the system to only present 2gb to the operating system. You would think there would be a workaround by now but I have not seen one.

This has been discussed several times before that I have seen with no solution.

This really stinks how my T43 can't read up to 4Gb of ram, maybe in the longrun there will be some type of solution? Other then that, 2gb if fine, but 4gb would be pure power. :(

Anyway, this is one of the last IBM notebook so it's a keeper. Ok, somoebody please help me with the bothersome 2010 error message. I need those files! Again, someobdy put it up on rapid share: http://rapidshare.de/files/13761480/5K7 ... d.rar.html

Most of it was already made by Lenovo. In fact, the T43 I owned had a Lenovo sticker on the bottom.

For the 2010 error, I think you go to this site to update the HDD firmware.

BTW, I am looking at your signature. The resolution should be SXGA+, not WVGA, which corresponds to 768x480.

Tried that and it says that I don't need a firmeware update. that's why I need this patch because i saw some users enter a type a dos command to trick it. Unless if that floppy is a simple md-dos boot disk?

Smart decision. I owned both a T43 and a T60 and the latter beat the former by miles. The T43 was one of the least satisfying Thinkpads I've ever owned.

Not to burst your bubble, but the T60 can use only 3GB of RAM. To use 4GB in a ThinkPad, you need a T61 and a 64-bit OS.
Machine-Project: 750P, 600X, T42, T60, T400, X1 Carbon Touch
