Custom BIOS Splash Image on T60

#1 Post by GT500Shlby » Wed Sep 05, 2007 8:52 am

I have this IBM T60 2008-Z45 I upgraded with a T7600, 3GB of ram and a Seagate Momentus 7200.2 160GB 7.2k RPM hdd.
I loaded Windows Vista x64 on it.

I went to update the bios, and even though I got the laptop in February and online it says that July 25, 2007 a BIOS update was released - when I actually download it no BIOS rom image is included. I called the really pathetic tech support and the guy is like "uhm, well. Uhh, there is no BIOS update for it, you have a brand new machine. I can't help you and I can't send it to another department."

Okay - so at least it wasn't India. But it makes me think twice about the intelligence of the populus at large in Atlanta Georgia. That or they hire people with IQ's less than 50.

Anyway: I saw all this neet stuff on the Boot Logo in the BIOS update program and I got a file, converted it in photoshop and ran it through the included program and got the .MOD file. But without a ROM image I can't flash the bloody BIOS in the first place and without a new ROM image the program won't let me backup the old bios to use that to re-flash it to get the perdy little boot logo.

Can anyone provide any insight?

What about the BIOS update?

Thanks,
Mike

Here's a link to the latest BIOS. What are you saying does not work with it? Keep in mind that there is a different BIOS version for T60 widescreen models.

I downloaded that file. Yes I know - the widescreen version is 7iuj09us. The one I need is 79uj23us.

The 79uj23us file, when downloaded and ran says "BIOS image file cannot be found. The utility process has not completed."

The 7iuj09us file, worked PERFECTLY on my T60p and now I have a nice SKull and Crossbones when I boot my PC.

But the non-widescreen version isn't working properly.

I have 3 Lenovo laptops and 2 Dell desktops.

Looks to me like there is a 79ETD6WW (2.16) for your machine. This was released on 2007/07/25. Of course you should verify that this is the appropriate BIOS for your machine.

I am not on a windows machine at the moment so I can't try the .exe for you, but have you tried letting Thinkvantage System Update do the BIOS update in windows for you?

I want my custom logo image.

If you put a simple .bmp file in the directory and run logo.bat it will create a logo.mod file.

The bios update then detects it and asks if you want to use it and if you answer yes it loads it.

I tried the bootable ISO. I edited it with MagicISO and put in the .mod file but it doesn't ask or load it.

I just saw that I HAVE to use the CD with Windows Vista X64. So I will just have to load up a hdd with Windows XP x86 and use the regular update program.

Well I work for two companies. 1 full-time and 1 as a consultant.

My full-time company is moving entirely to Lenovo.

My other company is removing all lenovos from its line for PC's made in the USA. This other company does work for the US government and handles a lot of top-secret information and they are saying the Lenovo's are compromised by the chinese government.

I took a T60 with the regular IBM preload and put it behind a custom built firewall/gateway PC and even had a RF sensor near the laptop which was recording any radio frequencies comming from the laptop itself.

I noticed no traffic/frequencies at all that didn't have a purpose. Now the IBM preload does come with some adware/spyware but its all to known marketing companies and all of which operate in the US. Nothing is showing that there is any data going anywhere suspicious. Now most companies don't use the preload and use enterprise core image models. With the two image models I have, neither showed any suspicious data either.

I did some research and the entire thing just might be some politicians P.O.'d that government agencies and contractors werent using US made computers and nothing to actually do with Lenovo having 30% of its chinese corporation owned by the chinese government. Besides, Lenovo has a US based corporation and the building of the machines are outsourced to a 3rd party not owned at all by the Chinese government.

However, I don't like the lenovo desktops. 1.) they are UGLY, 2.) They aren't configured very well. My FT company agrees with me and hence we are taking avery long time to move our desktops to that line. We actually just added the latest desktop line from our current desktop provider HP. So for now desktops are at least 6 months off untill we change our desktop standards.
