Are you interested in T61 + QXGA? (PIC)
Some people have done this on T61.
You need to know Chinese:-)

By the way, how to paste photos here?

Re: Are you interested in T61 + QXGA?
why would you want a qxa? a WUXGA is 1920 x 1200 and a QXGA is 2048×1536. Do we really want to read very tiny fonts on a 15" LCD? ...... sighmike20030405 wrote:Some people have done this on T61.

It can't be T61 since it was never available in a 15" 4:3 format - or?
mike20030405, can you tell me how they fit a QXGA panel in the T60/T60P lid - when the lid is thinner than the panel, and thus the frame wouldn't fit onto it again?
Oh and save the pics and reupload them to http://img1.imageshack.us/
And post the LINKS to the uploaded images here

Re: Are you interested in T61 + QXGA?
I do. I have one QXGA R50p at work, and another one at home.cs120ban wrote:Do we really want to read very tiny fonts on a 15" LCD? ...... sigh
I like it, but I must say 15.4" WUXGA offers the best balance between real estate and comfortable viewing. With the 15.0" QXGA, I need to view the screen at around 12 inches from my eyes. With the 15.4" WUXGA Dell inspiron 6000 I used to have, I could lean back and relax.
All photos in that thread are just screenshots. I'd rather see the actual computer.Troels wrote:Oh and save the pics and reupload them to http://img1.imageshack.us/
The link provided by the OP refers to a T60p.Troels wrote:It can't be T61 since it was never available in a 15" 4:3 format - or?
UPDATE: My bad. Looks like the guy got it to work in a T60p first, and later he also got it to work in a T61. The guy reported that the T60p's QXGA screen was broken after just one day; I guess the T60p's LCD assembly is too thin. It's a dangerous mod, don't try it at home kids!
UPDATE 2: I am reading a little bit more and found something even more exciting on that forum: someone successfully installed a 12.1" SXGA+ screen in an X31!

Hey, we can copy-and-paste texts from that Chinese forum into the top text box on Babel Fish. Select "Chinese-simp to English".
My guess is that guy put a T61 mobo into a 15.0" T60p.gator wrote:AFAIK, there is no 15" 4:3 T61 ... also I haven't heard of a QXGA screen in widescreen ratio for the 15" ... can you please explain what you are saying in more detail?

Mike, thanks for trying but photos showing the whole computer would be more informative. Would you please ask that guy to take some snapshots of his QXGA T61? We'd like to see how he mounted a 15.0" 4:3 display assembly onto a (presumably widescreen) T61. If that's impossible, would you please just explain to us how that was done? My Chinese reading skill is too limited to understand that thread.mike20030405 wrote:let me try one pic.

OMG - All these resolution hacks are making me drool. Now someone needs to come up with a DPI/Resolution Smoothing PLUGIN / HACK for the machines that could work with these OSes: WinXP, OS X, Linux (UBuntu), Vista (I guess it already has that smoothing)I do. I have one QXGA R50p at work, and another one at home.

Sent question and waiting response...
I believe this guy installed the 14.1'' T61 motherboard into the T60 body, and installed the QXGA screen.
Also, he successfully installed UXGA screen on this hybrid NB, and working with the X7900 CPU.
Let's imagine.......

Do you think it might be possible to get details of the following:
- T60p Case / Body- 14" ? or 15"?
- QXGA screen - What kind / model? etc? Needed inverters / hacks etc?
- and so on..?

The guy used the 15" 4:3 T60p body.crashnburn wrote:Do you think it might be possible to get details of the following:

Detail informaiton of the screen seems not being mentioned.
The hardware system recognizes the screen by reading its SPD information which was written in an eeprom chip on the screen circuit board. So a screen with right SPD informaiton can work well with no modify/hack.
In the thread above the author got a QXGA screen with blank SPD information. What was worse, the QXGA resolution was not offically supported by thinkpad, which means he cannot find a thinkpad with QXGA screen and read the SPD information from its screen SPD chip.
He resolved this problem by comparing SPD information among XGA,SXGA+ and UXGA and figured out the right SPD information for QXGA screen.
After writting the SPD information into the screen SPD chip, it successfully worked.
Sorry for my poor English.Hope you will understand what I said

Re: Are you interested in T61 + QXGA?
The broken screen has nothing to do with assembly....pianowizard wrote:

The screen was modified and tested on a T60p by another guy first and then expressed to the OP in that thread.
It was damaged during expressing...
The OP repaired it and made it work on T61p.

He didn't mention that.Troels wrote:Thank you very much, kkposh![]()
Does he say anywhere, if he has tried with a T61 motherboard from a widescreen 15.4" thinkpad?
Or do you know of anyone who have tried installing a 16:10 model motherboard into a 4:3 model machine?
In one of that guy's article he expressed a strong dislike for widescreen thinkpad. So I think it probably impossible for him to buy a widescreen T61.
As far as I know no one in that forum has done such mod.
However,let's calculate.
The length of 14" 16:10 model is nearly same as the 15" 4:3 model while the width is far less.
so I think its very likely that a 14" widescreen model motherboard can be install into a 15" 4:3 model with some kind of modify.

It's not my insight...crashnburn wrote:Appreciate your insights. Hopefully someday someone will have a clear outline on this.
All the things I say was totally translated from that forum.
The QXGA issue seems already clear.
However, I still didn't know in detail how that guy put a T61 motherboard into T60.He didn't describe the process clearly.
