Upgrade to Wireless N

#1 Post by Jan-Peter » Fri Sep 07, 2007 8:45 am

Hi,

I have a Thinkpad Z61p, what performance very well. Just upgraded with a Hitachi Travelstar 200Gb 7200 HD.

However I would like to replace my Intel 3945ABG network card with an IBM Artehos ABGN to have wireless N.

And of course I need to install the third antenna. The originally place for the Antenna is on the right side of the screen. It seems to be a hard job for opening the TFT screen and place the antenna there.

How bad would it be for the performance to have the antenna inside the Z61p?

And are all three antennas exactly the same type? I am wondering if this is true because wireless N is using both 2.4GHz as 5.4Ghz.

And can you do the both frequencies with just the same antenna?

Many thanks in advance!

Just bought this one;

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... B:EF:US:11

They also included an antenna, would this one be ok? or should I better go for the original one, what needs to be placed next to the lcd screen?

Although...I have to open everything in that case….

Sorry for my late reply!

But everything works very fine, the speeds is ok and stable. I use still at home the G network. In future I will upgrade to the higher N speed!

The Antenna in that EBay auction just lays on the mainboard and not routed up to the LCD?

Indeed I have mounted the Antenna in the body, just below the ON/OFF knob. There is some space, and not a lot of metal what will decrease the signal strength.

I didn't route it thrue the screen, too complex.

I'm happy with the performance, in a couple of months I will buy a new N wireless router.
