It's only *usefull* with Vista. I try it, I think it's useless except if you have a crappy none 7200 rpm hdd like Lenovo use on some models ! It's better to buy a 7K200 or any fast hard drive then to play with Turbo mem.

So far, all of the reviews I've read about it are that it either makes no difference or it slows the machine down.

Vista SP1 may fix the problem. But for now, I'd avoid using it.

Don't know what "reviews" you're reading...
On my new T61P, there is a significant and noticable difference in responsiveness with Turbo memory (readyboost+readydrive) enabled, vs disabled. Makes the system feel much snappier.
Obviously it takes a few hours of runtime after first setup/install for Readyboost/readydrive to "learn" your access patterns, and preload the cache. You'll notice significant drive churn when you first enable it. After a few hours of use though, it works great!

Here are a few reviews that I referred to:

http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=3009&p=2
http://news.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/0,1000 ... 377,00.htm
http://news.com.com/2100-1004_3-6188531.html
http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/31976/135/

And there are dozens more. Again, performance may improve with Vista SP1, but for now, your best bet is to load the system with as much primary RAM as it will take.

It seems that ReadyDrive may be more problematic than ReadyBoost.

I'll second RonS. I have seen thinkpad machines with and without Turbo memory and it made little to no difference in system efficiency in Windows Vista.

I recommend disabling Turbo Memory. It's not an expensive option so it doesn't hurt to have it but as of right now, it's useless to me. It slows down my computer and causes it to be extremely unstable. Hopefully this will be fixed by SP1.

Anandtech.com did a very good review of Turbo Memory. They found that it is not very useful right now, if you have more than 1 GB of RAM. Maybe as Microsoft works a better caching algorithm, it will become more useful. You canr ead about it here:

I've got a T61 with 2gb of ram, and if i leave the turbo memory on, I get BSOD all day long. and that's with the newest drivers for it installed too. so, for now its a waste of space.
