Pre-installed programs from Lenovo w/Vista on X61s

#1 Post by ComputerMinder » Fri Sep 07, 2007 6:08 pm

Hey guys,

Just got my X61s ultralight comes pre installed with Vista Business. I am going to use the Recovery option to reformat the HD and select only the programs that I wish to be installed. I get this selection box which I can select which programs do I wish to have installed with the new OS and I was wondering if I can get any through help on which programs you guys advice to have. I hate to have a cluttered Windows with all sorts of stuff which I will never need anyway. I prefer as few programs as possible.

If you guys can comment on these what they are doing and if they are good to have:

Leadertech Registartion
Maintenance Manager 3
Productivity Center Supplement for Thinkpads
System Migration Assistant
Message Center for Thinkpads
Access Help
Help Center for Thinkpads
ThinkPad EasyEject Utility
ThinkPad Mobility Center Customization
ThinkVantage Accsss Connections
ThinkVanrage Productivity Center
ThinkVanrage System Update 3.0 [ML]
TVT - Welcome Message Applet
Vista OOBE First Run
Vista - Lenovo Welcome
Vista-Gadgets Lenovo Essentials
Vista - OOBE offer
Vista-Performance Manager Screen
Wallpaper 2007
SUN JRE 6.0
PC Doctor (think it's good diags)
Disk kepper Home (not sure if to keep it i saw it's resident in the tray)
Presentation Director

Thanks in advance

Sir, I honestly believe it depends on your preference, demand and usage. All applications in the list has a function, they have been designed and put there to make the most out of your machine, you can look up on lenovo.com about what they can do.

I need to reload one of the programs that is in that section (intervideo virtual drive) which came with my x61t but got removed when I loaded the intervideo windvd 8.

Can anyone tell me how to get just one of the pre-loaded apps from the recovery section back into the other part of the drive?

Go to:

C: drive > SWTools > apps > dvdplay > Setup

Hi, I have been checking Lenovo site and was unable to find a place where I can see all of these apps and their usage. It's very unclear about several of these apps. If someone can explain what each does I will be grateful. Several of them have almost identical names and hard to undetstand jsut from their name, the difference between each other. Thanks

I don't know 100% on all of these, but I'd say the following:

Leadertech Registartion - After you register, you can remove
Maintenance Manager 3 - Keep, but I don't have it start automatically
Productivity Center Supplement for Thinkpads - keep
System Migration Assistant - keep
Message Center for Thinkpads - keep, but don't start
Access Help - keep
Help Center for Thinkpads - keep
ThinkPad EasyEject Utility - I believe on an x61 without the ultrabase, you can remove this
ThinkPad Mobility Center Customization - keep
ThinkVantage Accsss Connections - keep, but this will depend on what/how you want to use it. Tends to be a little slow in my experience, so I don't have it running, but I don't roam to many hotspots.
ThinkVanrage Productivity Center - keep
ThinkVanrage System Update 3.0 [ML] - definitely keep
TVT - Welcome Message Applet - don't know about this one
Vista OOBE First Run - can uninstall after first run
Vista - Lenovo Welcome - can uninstall after first run
Vista-Gadgets Lenovo Essentials - not really that useful
Vista - OOBE offer - uninstall
Vista-Performance Manager Screen - not sure what this is
Wallpaper 2007 - keep, you get the cool time zone map!
SUN JRE 6.0 - you can keep, but you can easily get from java.com
PC Doctor (think it's good diags) - keep, pretty decent diags
Disk kepper Home (not sure if to keep it i saw it's resident in the tray) - can't stand this thing, I would remove
Presentation Director - keep, but this will also depend on how you use your laptop
Ordered X61s on 5/31, delivered 7/31
